We are looking for local fine artists and crafters to participate in our first annual Holiday Boutique.

Please send me 6 photos of your work (800 pixels on the longer side, jpg's) if you have not worked with us before. The items must be approved by our art selection committee. No jury fee.

All items must be for sale. They must be uniquely yours and finely hand crafted. No mass produced products or store bought items will be allowed.

Inspired by nature, Konnie Kim paints in bold and radiant colors. She is drawn to many works of the Fauves and the Impressionists. She is also fascinated by the honesty and spontaneity of children's art. Her calligraphic brush strokes and interesting use of colors are what the collectors love about Konnie's work.

Konnie's earlier work reflects her curious personality. She has explored almost all available medium and styles of fine art and graphic design. At the age of 19 she realized her first commercial success with licensed illustrations for a manufacturer and she is currently licensed with others. While in college she coordinated fine art shows in non-traditional settings for herself and other artists. These became known as "Any Space Shows". The venues included hotels, restaurants, schools, theaters and galleries eventually totaling over 100 shows.

Konnie has received numerous awards and her work has appeared in trade magazines, newspapers, TV shows and online venues. She has worked as an art and framing designer/consultant for wall décor manufacturers. Konnie owned an art gallery and frame shop for eighteen years. In 2007, she sold the business wishing to devote more time to art.

Konnie has coached many artists on painting and marketing. She is always in a learning mode and has dedicated her life to learning and sharing her knowledge with others. Occasionally, she will explore other media and styles to grow as an artist but her primary focus is landscape in oil. Konnie's original paintings and reproductions may be found in galleries and gift shops as well as private and corporate collections.

Glossary

En plein air
is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting in the outside environment rather than indoors (such as in a studio)

Fauves
Les Fauves (French for The Wild Beasts) were a short-lived and loose grouping of early 20th century Modern artists, whose works emphasized painterly qualities and strong colors over the representational values retained by Impressionism. While Fauvism as a style began around 1900 and continued beyond 1910, the movement as such lasted only three years, 1905–1907, and had three exhibitions. The leaders of the movement were Henri Matisse and André Derain.

Giclée
(pronounced "zhee-clay") were originally developed in 1989 as a plate-less method of fine art printing. The word Giclée is French for "to spray ". The images are scanned and digitally stored in a computer and sent directly to a high resolution printer. Unlike other printing methods, each image is sent to the printer individually.

Impressionist

Impressionism was a 19th century art movement that began as a loose association of Paris-based artists, who began exhibiting their art publicly in the 1860s. The name of the movement is derived from the title of a Claude Monet work, Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant), which provoked the critic Louis Leroy to coin the term in a satiric review published in Le Charivari.
Characteristics of Impressionist painting include visible brushstrokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles.
